Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Hanoi. After a short drive we’ll start our tour with a visit to the exquisite Tran Quoc Pagoda, an ancient Buddhist temple and national heritage site, located at the West Lake.

We visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the final resting place of Vietnam’s greatest father. Walk beside Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house where he lived and worked from 1958 to 1969. The vast gardens boast over 250 different species of plants & flowers from all over Vietnam.

Next stop is to see the beautiful One Pillar Pagoda, modeled on the lotus flower – a striking symbol of Hanoi city.

We visit the impressive Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton), which was used by the French colonists in French Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War

Your transportation will take you back to a local restaurant in the Old Quarter of Hanoi where we’ll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch and some time to relax.

We explore the Temple of Literature, the most famous temple in Hanoi that also served as Vietnam’s first university. It was constructed in 1070 under King Ly Nhan Tong and dedicated to Confucius, sages and scholars. This vastly significant structure incorporates an interior realm of 5 courtyards, ancient trees and manicured lawns.

We’ll take a short drive to the legendary Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as Sword Lake, to visit the holy Ngoc Son temple dedicated to the saint Van Xuong and former general commander Tran Hung Dao for his struggle against the Mongolians. We’ll also see the surrounding rich, stylistic synergy of Vietnamese and French architecture. Learn the legends of this ancient lake, and if you’re very lucky, you may even spot the elusive giant turtle!

Useful information

Especially for the north and central Vietnam;

In the period between November and April, the weather is variable, from sunny to cold and rainy. It is advisable during this period to bring some rain gear with some warmer clothes. In the period from April to November, it is good to pack a hat with a wide brim, sunscreen (at least SPF15) and a reliable insect repellent. A thin rain poncho is useful all year round.

What do I need to know? 

During the period March to November it will good to pack your swimming gear, a towel, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen (at least SPF15), a reliable insect repellent, toiletries, a camera and lots of batteries. Warm clothing for the cooler months of November to March are advised. How much luggage can I take? Your vehicle has limited space so please keep your luggage to a maximum of 15kgs in a backpack or soft over-night bag and include a small day pack to hand carry for easy access to camera, sunscreen, water etc. Inhibitions can be left in the luggage storage rooms at your hotel with your other unwanted baggage.
