MEKONG DELTA – The Local Mekong Delta Experience – 2D1N

The Mekong Delta, known to many as Vietnam’s “Heartland” or “The Rice Bowl” of Vietnam has always been an incredible draw to tourists as it celebrates the modest beginnings of the country. Beyond the picturesque natural beauty of the area, its warm and friendly local people paint a true portrait of happiness, hard work and community that is lacking in many parts of the world today.

The Mekong Delta is carpeted in a dizzying variety of greens. It’s a water world that moves to the rhythms of the mighty Mekong River, where boats, houses and markets float upon the innumerable rivers, canals and streams that crisscross the landscape like arteries.

Day 1 – Mekong Delta – Local Experience

Today you will start your local Mekong Delta experience. For this trip you’ll have 2 options, the first one is a bit more budget by quality local bus and the other option is based on private transportation. Just let us know your preference and all detailed information will be on the tour voucher we provide.

The journey to the Mekong will take around 3 hours and on arrival your local guide will meet you for a typical local lunch and some time to relax in the hammocks. You can enjoy some fresh pomelo, coconut or fresh fruits from our own fruit garden. At around 15:00 we’ll take the bikes to explore the area so you can see real local life with different types of farming, various plant and fruit gardens and of course plenty of rice fields…

We then visit a Khmer temple of over 300 years old where you will learn more about Buddhism religion and Khmer culture and life. Please cover your shoulders when entering the temple area.

We then make our way to the local market to shop for our dinner and return to the guesthouse.

At 6pm you can join-in as we start preparing dinner. After dinner you can enjoy a quit and relaxing evening right in the heart of the Mekong for a perfect local feel. Your room has a fan, mosquito net and air conditioning.

Day 2 – Cai Rang Floating Market

Today we’ll start early at 5:15 to beat the crowds! Your local tour guide will take you on a boat ride    to visit the floating market of Cai Rang, the biggest in the Mekong Delta to experience real local life in the Delta and enjoy some of the local fruits during your small boat ride.

We’ll enjoy ‘a floating, typical Vietnamese breakfast’ at the market and visit a local rice noodle factory to see how locals make rice noodle where you can try for yourself to make rice paper and noodles. We make our way back through the narrow canals with water coconut and mangroves along the river banks. We continue our trip visiting an organic cacao farm to show you how the cacao trees grow and will teach you how to make chocolate Vietnamese style. Of course you’ll get the chance to taste real chocolate, fresh chocolate fruit, chocolate bars and cacao nibs.

We finish the trip at Can Tho City with an early local lunch around 11am with an early lunch from where we either transfer you to the bus (your guide will provide tickets) or have your driver ready for your journey back to Ho Chi Minh City. Useful information

Especially for the north and central Vietnam;

In the period between November and April, the weather is variable, from sunny to cold and rainy. It is advisable during this period to bring some rain gear with some warmer clothes. In the period from April to November, it is good to pack a hat with a wide brim, sunscreen (at least SPF15) and a reliable insect repellent. A thin rain poncho is useful all year round.

The south of Vietnam is generally a lot warmer all year round, so warm clothing is not really necessary.
