MEKONG DELTA CRUISE – LUXURY BEN TRE – VUNG LIEM – CAN THO – 3D2N (private)

Get Up And Go Vietnam offers a higher standard to make a more memorable, authentic and truly unique and local experience… The Mekong Delta, due to its labyrint of water ways, is Vietnam’s “Heartland” from the early modest beginnings of the country. Through our top local guides, our well-built and maintained superior boat fleet, we inspect areas untouched by commercial tourism.

DAY 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Mo Cay – Vung Liem

At 8.00am we depart for a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Saigon to Ben Tre, one of the country’s southern provinces, situated in the Delta of the Mekong River.

Upon arrival at Ba Lai bridge in Ben Tre we get on a Xe Loi (trishaw- motor) and ride on narrow village roads to our local pier.

Here you’ll board your Mango Cruise boat at Ba Dung Pier in Ben Tre and head to An Hoa River. Enjoy coconut juice and peaceful sceneries while crew members board your luggage.  The cruise will take you to Phong Nam village in Giong Trom, where you will take a cycling trip through the Village to experience local daily life.

We stop at a local house to taste the tropical fruits and chat with the farmer. Visit a coconut spirits factory, which is a popular drink among natives in Vietnam. It is a sweet, fresh and mildly fermented sap taken from tapping the young expanded flowers of the coconut, which is good for health.

We continue to take a rowing sampan boat through the small canals, which are covered green by water coconut plants. As you reach the big river, your sampan is waiting for you and lunch will be served on board.

After lunch, your boat will bring you to My Long village where you will meet a local family, Mr Sau Tuong, a former Vietcong soldier who survived two years fighting the Khmer Rouge in Phnom Penh. Now he and his wife live on making rice paper, which is the most famous specialty of My Long village. Have a chat with him and enjoy the crispy rice paper made by his wife while observing the process of how it is made.

We return to the boat and continue to cruise to Mo Cay canals where we stop for a visit at the coconut processing workshop where you can see how the locals utilize every bit of the coconut. We continue cruising to  Vung Liem Canal where your sampan will dock for the night.

Relax and freshen up for your cooking demonstration and dinner on board.  The rest of the evening will be spent at your leisure.

Continue to take a bike ride through green paddies, garden settings and local villages to explore the untouched beauty of this region.

We head to the town of Vung Liem and continue our trip to visit the Cao Dai Temple in one of the most popular local religions, which is a combination of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism.

The boat will then cruise to Tra On on the Mang Thit River, on the way you will stop at Cai Nhum village where you will have a walk or bike ride through local villages. This will offer a good chance to observe the local culture and interact with local people.

Get back to your boat and continue cruising to Can Tho. While on board you can fresh-up and head to the deck to observe the sun set. Your private bar is always open and your dinner will be served afterwards. Enjoy fresh air while cruising on the tranquil water. The rest of the evening is spent at your leisure.

Useful information

Especially for the north and central Vietnam;

In the period between November and April, the weather is variable, from sunny to cold and rainy. It is advisable during this period to bring some rain gear with some warmer clothes. In the period from April to November, it is good to pack a hat with a wide brim, sunscreen (at least SPF15) and a reliable insect repellent. A thin rain poncho is useful all year round.

The south of Vietnam is generally a lot warmer all year round, so warm clothing is not really necessary.
