This tour will surely be unforgettable, giving you a true taste of Laos.
Program:
Trek And Paddle In The Nam Khan River Valley (lunch)
High water season, August to October:
You’ll start this tour with a drive from Luang Prabang on a short scenic ride south to the banks of the Nam Khan River. There, we’ll cross the river by boat and then start an easy-to-medium trek of about 1.5 hours through jungle, forest, bamboo, paddy fields, and streams to a small Khmu village at the base of limestone mountains. Your guide will show you around the village to admire the beautiful bamboo weaved houses and meet the locals! Don’t hesitate to talk with the locals with the help of your guide.
After exploring the Khmu villages we’ll hike another 1.5 hours to the Tad Sae waterfalls where, depending on season, you can enjoy the impressive sight of rainy season high waters or the inviting clear, turquoise waters at the rainy season’s end. Enjoy a refreshing swim, there are elephants at the waterfall that you can watch, and explore the surrounding Tad Sae area.
From the waterfall we’ll take a boat ride to our Tiger Trail Adventure Camp where we begin our kayak adventure down the Nam Khan River. After a short safety review, the guide will teach you how to paddle if it is your first time. You’ll enjoy an exciting river journey through the beautiful Nam Khan River Valley, through lush jungle. Observe locals engaged in everyday activities on the river. Kayaking conditions vary between easy to medium (check with your sales staff) and total time is approximately 2 hours, depending on river conditions. We’ll end the tour with a late afternoon return drive to Luang Prabang City.
Total trekking about 8 km. Kayaking is about 11 km.
Low water season, March to August:
In the low water season Tad Sae Waterfall is dry and not visited. While kayaking you may stop on the many white sand beaches to relax, swim and explore and we’ll visit the famous Henri Mouhot’s resting site accessible from the river.
Total trekking about 8 km. Kayaking is about 11 km.
