Please keep in mind that from Lao Cai it is an additional 45-minute bus ride to Sapa.
For trains you can opt for a hard sleeper (not advisable – 6 berths in a cabin) or soft sleeper (4 berths in a cabin). For soft sleeper there are various quality standards available, this is mainly about the comfort and thickness of mattresses. For the journey back from Lao Cai to Hanoi we prefer taking a comfortable or luxury afternoon bus instead of a train!
