The Mekong Delta, known to many as Vietnam’s “Heartland,” has always been an incredible draw to tourists as it celebrates the modest beginnings of the country. Beyond the picturesque natural beauty of the area, its warm and friendly local people paint a true portrait of happiness, hard work and community that is lacking in many parts of the world today.

Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Nhon Trach – Ho Chi Minh City

At 8.00am we depart for a 1.5-hour drive from Saigon to Ben Tre, one of the country’s southern provinces, situated in the Delta of the Mekong River.

Explore the beautiful Ben Tre countryside by sampan, rowboat, bicycle and tuk-tuk on this fascinating expedition into the lush Mekong Delta. Stop along the way to visit activated charcoal, coconut workshop and bridge factory. After the shore excursion, your crew is set to welcome you aboard with chilled towelettes and a refreshing drink as your luxury sampan sets off on a leisurely cruise on the Ben Tre River.

From the boat’s unique vantage point, observe life as it is lived along the river – a fascinating procession of boats both big and small, fishermen casting their nets, and brilliant landscapes in every shade of green.

At the village of Nhon Trach, step ashore and stroll to a small outdoor market. Stop at a home that makes straw mats, and put your craftsmanship to the test!

Sightseeing picturesque villages and fruit orchards on the three-wheeled tuk-tuk along the way heading to an elegant countryside restaurant to have lunch in tropical garden setting by the river.

After lunch, board a small rowing sampan exploring the ecosystem by the river covered with nipa palm lined along narrow and peaceful canals. Then, your personal vehicle awaits to drive you back to Ho Chi Minh City where we arrive around 18:00.

Useful information

Especially for the north and central Vietnam;

In the period between November and April, the weather is variable, from sunny to cold and rainy. It is advisable during this period to bring some rain gear with some warmer clothes. In the period from April to November, it is good to pack a hat with a wide brim, sunscreen (at least SPF15) and a reliable insect repellent. A thin rain poncho is useful all year round.

The south of Vietnam is generally a lot warmer all year round, so warm clothing is not really necessary.
