Day 1: HCMC – Can Tho - Mekong Delta Local life
From Ho Chi Minh you can choose to take a local bus or private transportation to the Mekong Delta. On arrival we will pick you up to have a nice lunch with local dishes before we start a boat trip to discover the area to visit a plant nursery village, a rice separating factory, a local market where we will buy our ingredients for dinner. In the Mekong Delta we also have an ethnic group named ” Khmer ”. You will have a chance to learn more about their culture, customs and language.
After the Khmer village and temples, we return to the boat to take you on a relaxing ride through the mangrove canals and trees along the river to witness local fisherman trying to catch fish. After about 20 minutes through the canals we arrive at the homestay where your guide grew up. The homestay is fairly new, built in 2009 and is located in a peaceful place. In front the house is the canal and behind the house is the garden where we grow pomelos, organic vegetables and rice.
Are you thirsty now? Don’t worry! We have fresh coconuts, which are picked up right at the garden. You will have some time to relax in the hammocks in the garden or do some cycling in the area. From here you can watch the beautiful sunset before we start cooking dinner.
After dinner we’ll show you beautiful fireflies the buzz around in the sky and enjoy a quit and relaxing evening right in the heart of the Mekong for a perfect local feel. Your room has a fan, mosquito net and air conditioning.
