Day 1: Mekong Delta – Local Experience (lunch - dinner)

Your driver will pick you up at 9am at your accommodation for the transfer to the Mekong Delta. On arrival your local guide will pick you up to have a nice local Vietnamese lunch with some specific local dishes before we start a trip by small boats to discover the area. We will visit a rice separating factory. We then take you to a plant nursery. In the Mekong Delta we also have an ethnic group,” Khmer”. You will have a chance to learn more about their culture, customs and language while visiting this lovely Khmer temple. We then take you to the local market where we shop for local ingredients used for dinner and head for the homestay through narrow canals with mangroves and water coconuts.

After about 20 minutes through the canals we arrive at the homestay where your guide grew up. The homestay is located in a peaceful place. In front of the house is the canal and behind the house is the garden where they grow pomelos, organic vegetables and rice.

Are you thirsty now? Don’t worry! We have fresh coconuts, which are picked up right at the garden. You will have some time to relax in the hammocks in the garden or do some cycling in the area. From here you can watch the beautiful sunset before we start cooking dinner.

After dinner we’ll show you beautiful fireflies the buzz around in the sky and enjoy a quit and relaxing evening right in the heart of the Mekong for a perfect local feel. Your room has a fan, mosquito net and air conditioning.

After that we will show you how local people make rice noodle and you can of course try it for yourself. We then take you to an organic cacao farm where you can see how cacao trees grow and will learn how to make chocolate Vietnam style. You’ll of course get the chance to taste real chocolate, fresh chocolate fruits, chocolate bar and cacao nibs.
