Our guidance service will pick you up at your hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi at around 9.00 – 9.40pm and transfer you to the bus stop for the overnight journey to Sapa.

Itinerary Details Day 2: Sapa – Ta Van

The bus arrives early in Sapa, at around 3am but you’ll be able to stay on the bus till around 6am. At that time you will be picked up and brought to our partner hotel where a morning shower will be offered followed by breakfast together with amazing scenery over Sapa town and the Muong Hoa valley. 

Enjoy a very warm welcome from our local (Hmong) tour guide who will guide you through this stunning piece of Vietnam. From the lush terraced rice paddies to the rustic charm of the native dwellings, Sapa and its surroundings is a place you’re sure to fall in love with!

Many diverse groups like the Dzay, Dzao, Tay, Xa Pho or Hmong populate this richly cultural northern territory. You’ll sample their unique delights as you pass through each village. 

At around 9 a.m. she will meet you at the hotel where your trekking adventure will kick off. We'll start our trekking with a visit at the market to buy food and fruit for lunch, on the way, before we’ll start this fantastic trek to Ta Van, down in the Muong Hoa valley. 

During the 15 km walk we’ll visit three villages of ethnic populations. Enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful valley that leads towards Fansipan, the highest peak in Viet Nam and Indochina. The trek leads through the village of Black Hmong people, where you can learn how they weave and embroider their incredible clothes. Further along our descent we’ll enjoy the many colorful rice paddy fields until we reach Ta Van village, inhabited by the Dzay people. We’ll have a filling lunch on the way at a local family and dinner with your host in a beautiful and traditional Hmong homestay, by far the most cozy accommodation in Ta Van!

Day 3 : The North Trail Vietnam - Sapa Trekking (Breakfast and lunch)

Itinerary Details Day 3: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai - Sapa

After a traditional breakfast we leave Ta Van and continue our trek to visit the Red Dao people in Giang Ta Chai village. We pass some stunning scenery and a lovely waterfall along our route. As their name suggests, red is used extensively in the Red Dao women’s clothing and scarves.

Our journey leads us along the small paths edging the rice fields, across the Muong Hoa River and lunch will be on the way at a fantastic spot. We’ll head back to Ta Van after our second amazing trekking in the early afternoon where you can enjoy a refreshing shower before we bring you back to the bus stop in Sapa for the afternoon bus back to Hanoi. Expected arrival time is around 9.30pm. On arrival we will bring you to your overnight stay for the night.

Day 4 : The North Trail Vietnam - Trekking Cat Ba National Park (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Itinerary Details Day 4: Hanoi – Cat Ba Island

After an early breakfast at your stay it is time to go on an extraordinary adventure! Specially designed for an adventurous audience and the only one that combines a beautiful trekking on Cat Ba Island with a full day cruising and kayaking in Lan Ha Bay, a more remote, beautiful and less touristy area of Halong Bay.

Some of the highlights of this adventurous cruise:

  • Trekking to Ngu Lam Peak and visiting Hospital Cave on Cat Ba Island.
  • Accommodation on Cat Ba Island.
  • Full day cruising through Lan Ha Bay, a remote, beautiful and less touristy part of Halong Bay.
  • Non-touristic kayaking to explore hidden overhanging cave and lagoons, home to many birds and monkeys.

7-8am You will be picked up from your stay in Hanoi Old Quarter for the journey to Hai Phong city, the largest harbor in the Red River Delta. The bus ride will give you some good views of rice field and local villages in the area.

10am Arrive in Hai Phong city and board the speedboat to Cat Ba Island. On Cat Ba Island we take a scenic 45-minute ride towards Cat Ba town. The scenery is mostly sea view and jungle smells of Cat Ba National Park.

12.30 Lunch will be served at your hotel in Cat Ba. In the afternoon, you will be transferred by minivan to Cat Ba National park for an adventurous trek through the jungle leading you to the top of Ngu Lam peak, offering great views of the whole island and its biosphere reserve. Following the hike and trek, we’ll visit Hang Quan Y (known as Hospital cave) – an amazing man made build in the American War in 1962 which played an important role as bomb shelter and rescue center for locals and soldiers.

Evening       You will have dinner at the hotel and the further evening will be at your own interpretation.

Day 5 : The North Trail Vietnam - Cruising and Kayaking in Lan Ha Bay (Breakfast and lunch)

Itinerary Details Day 5: Cat Ba Island – Lan Ha Bay - Hanoi

8.00 After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and we’ll board our traditional junk and start a relaxing cruise out into Lan Ha Bay. Witness local, floating fish farm and get a sense of how local life here in the bay. There are many chances to have a break on one of the beaches for swimming before lunch is served on board at around 12.00. Start kayaking in Lan Ha Bay to visit a local fish farm, secluded beaches and secret lagoons.

More cruising in the afternoon through Lan Ha Bay before we head back to Cat Ba town at around 16:00

16.00 The bus will pick you up from your stay in Cat Ba and we cross Cat Ba National Park to the harbor from where we take the speedboat back to Hai Phong. 

~19.30 Trip ends in Hanoi where we drop you off at your stay in the old quarter.

Day 6 : The North Trail Vietnam - Bai Dinh & Trang An (Breakfast and lunch)

Itinerary Details Day 6: Hanoi – Bai Dinh – Trang An – Hanoi

Your English-speaking tour guide for the day will warmly welcome you at your hotel, after breakfast and check-out, before we begin our fantastic cultural and nature adventure!

Some of the highlights of today:

  • A boat ride to explore outstanding natural sceneries of limestone karst landscapes.
  • Pay a visit to the glimmering massive pagoda complex one of the most magnificent architectures ever built.
  • Tranquil cycling on rural roads alongside the extensive canal network and through small villages with a back drop of a maze of Limestone Mountain.

7.45–8.30am Our guide will meet you at your hotel/stay in the old quarter of Hanoi to start the 100km modern bus journey through verdant landscape of countryside. We take a short break en route.

11am Arrive at the glimmering Bai Dinh pagoda complexes, the largest pagoda, not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asia. Scenically set on the foot hill of Dinh Mountain, surrounded by amazing views of the exquisite river valley below and the limestone karsts dotted around which will take your breath away.

This pagoda complex stunner boasts an array of the most massive and magnificent architecture of Vietnamese tradition, refined ever built that it takes a full day to explore all. So you will visit some of the highlights that owned the national:

  • 500 stone statues of “La Han” (Arhats)
  • 2 huge bronze bells, one weighs 27 tons and another 36 tones
  • Three bronze statues of Tam The (50 tons each)

With sacred atmospheres and intriguing Buddhism story, which presented by your insider guide, you cannot fail to enchant.

The visit ends with a walk-up the summit mountain to see the 100 tones statue of Buddha Sakyamuni made of bronze and enjoy the panoramic view of the picturesque landscape dotted with Limestone Mountains.

1pm Enjoy a fabulous buffet lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant, with some special dishes such as goat meat, pork storage vessel….

2pm Leave for the Trang An Grottoes, an out-standing natural beauty of a majestic limestone massif at 20 square kilometre rise dramatically out of rice paddy fields. Deep into the linked chains of towering mountain are pristine places of mystical valleys, numerous fresh water ponds, and jungle. Embark on a traditional sampan gently rowed down the exquisite river through numerous caves: Hang Toi (Dack)  cave, 320 meters long, Sang  (light) cave, 90 meters long, and Hang Nau Ruou (Cooking wine) cave, 250 meters long…  Every passages bring new surprises of the mystery hidden inside isolated valleys of tranquillity that likely transformed to the other world and time. The fauna and flora is rich and a scene of a goat jumping from one cliff to the other is a common sight.

4pm Leisure cycling on rural roads alongside the extensive canal network and through small villages with a back drop of a maze of Limestone Mountains.

5.30pm We make our way back to Hanoi where we arrive at around 8.30pm. 

Back in Hanoi your trip unfortunately ends with us but we are sure that this tour made an indelible memory that you will cherish for the rest of your life!

The best way is to travel light and therefore we suggest you leave your main luggage at our partner hotel in Hanoi or Sapa for free. If you prefer to have your luggage at our homestay a modest additional fee applies.
