Itinerary Details Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa

Our guidance service will pick you up at your hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi at around 9.00 – 9.40pm and transfer you to the bus stop for the overnight journey to Sapa.

Day 2 : The North Trail 6D5N (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Itinerary Details Day 2: Sapa – Ta Van

The bus arrives early in Sapa, at around 3am but you’ll be able to stay on the bus till around 6am. At that time you will be picked up and brought to our partner hotel where a morning shower will be offered followed by breakfast together with amazing scenery over Sapa town and the Muong Hoa valley.

Enjoy a very warm welcome from our local (Hmong) tour guide who will guide you through this stunning piece of Vietnam. From the lush terraced rice paddies to the rustic charm of the native dwellings, Sapa and its surroundings is a place you’re sure to fall in love with!

Many diverse groups like the Dzay, Dzao, Tay, Xa Pho or Hmong populate this richly cultural northern territory. You’ll sample their unique delights as you pass through each village.

At around 9 a.m. she will meet you at the hotel where your trekking adventure will kick off. We'll start our trekking with a visit at the market to buy food and fruit for lunch, on the way, before we’ll start this fantastic trek to Ta Van, down in the Muong Hoa valley.

During the 15 km walk we’ll visit three villages of ethnic populations. Enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful valley that leads towards Fansipan, the highest peak in Viet Nam and Indochina. The trek leads through the village of Black Hmong people, where you can learn how they weave and embroider their incredible clothes. Further along our descent we’ll enjoy the many colorful rice paddy fields until we reach TaVan village, inhabited by the Dzay people. We’ll have a filling lunch on the way at a local family and dinner with your host in a beautiful and traditional Hmong homestay, by far the most cozy accommodation in Ta Van!

Day 3 : The North Trail 6D5N (Breakfast and lunch)

Itinerary Details Day 3: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai - Sapa

After a traditional breakfast we leave Ta Van and continue our trek to visit the Red Dao people in Giang Ta Chai village. We pass some stunning scenery and a lovely waterfall along our route. As their name suggests, red is used extensively in the Red Dao women’s clothing and scarves.

Our journey leads us along the small paths edging the rice fields, across the Muong Hoa River and lunch will be on the way at a fantastic spot. We’ll head back to Ta Van after our second amazing trekking in the early afternoon where you can enjoy a refreshing shower before we bring you back to the bus stop in Sapa for the afternoon bus back to Hanoi. Expected arrival time is around 9.30pm. On arrival we will bring you to your overnight stay for the night.

Day 4 : The North Trail 6D5N (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Itinerary Details Day 4: Hanoi – Halong Bay

After an early breakfast at your stay it is time to go on an extraordinary adventure! Specially designed for a younger audience and the only one that spends more than 3 times as much time cruising through Halong and Lan Ha Bay, going almost completely around Cat Ba Island!

The area used for kayaking is untouched and non-touristic where hidden caves can be explored!

Some of the highlights of this cruise:

  • 3 times longer cruising through breathtaking Halong Bay, almost completely around Cat Ba Island.
  • Non-touristic sea kayaking (waterproof bags are available) to explore hidden caves (first discovery!). 3 majestic stalagmite caves like no other and home to many exotic animals like fish, birds and monkeys.
  • The most beautiful lagoons in Lan Ha Bay.
  • BBQ dinner at the beach (if weather conditions allow it).
  • Standard accommodation is based on hostel to accommodate up to 24 people. Private beachfront bungalows are optional.

7.20 Please be at the meeting point, close to your overnight place from where the bus leaves to Haiphong.

10.30 Board the hydrofoil (speedboat) to Cai Vieng, west of Halong Bay.

11.00 You’ll get on board for a spectacular cruise deep inside Halong Bay while lunch is served for you.

14.00 Experience 1-hour sea kayaking as we paddle through many placid lagoons and hidden caves. The lagoon and its vicinity are the perfect destination for swimming & kayaking due to the calmer water and magnificent scenery. Later this afternoon we’ll offer some extra time for swimming and boat jumping before we continue our journey through Lan Ha Bay towards our overnight island.

17.30 Arrive on our stunning and secluded private island. Check in to the hostel and enjoy some time to relax on the beach or discover the islands surroundings.

19.00 Enjoy a 4-course seafood BBQ dinner.

21.00 Enjoy the evening and have a great time on the beach….

Itinerary Details Day 5: Halong Bay - Hanoi

8.30 Buffet breakfast is served with a multi choice of pancake, homemade jam, honey, eggs, tea and coffee…

10.00 You’ll have around one hour to trek to the top the hill for panoramic views of the surrounding Lan Ha Bay or just swim and relax on the beach.

12.30 Take a packed lunch with you before we leave the island for Cat Ba town where we take the bus to cross Cat Ba national park to the harbor then the back to Hai Phong by speedboat.

17.00          Trip ends in Hanoi

Back in Hanoi you can check in at your hostel and the further evening will be at your own interpretation.

Day 6 : The North Trail 6D5N (Breakfast and lunch)

Itinerary Details Day 6: Hanoi – Bai Dinh – Trang An – Hanoi

Your English-speaking tour guide for the day will warmly welcome you at your hotel, after breakfast and check-out, before we begin our fantastic cultural and nature adventure!

Some of the highlights of today:

  • A boat ride to explore outstanding natural sceneries of limestone karst landscapes.
  • Pay a visit to the glimmering massive pagoda complex one of the most magnificent architectures ever built.
  • Tranquil cycling on rural roads alongside the extensive canal network and through small villages with a back drop of a maze of Limestone Mountain.

7.45–8.30am: Our guide will meet you at your hotel/stay in the old quarter of Hanoi to start the 100km modern bus journey through verdant landscape of countryside. We take a short break en route. 

11am: Arrive at the glimmering Bai Dinh pagoda complexes, the largest pagoda, not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asia. Scenically set on the foot hill of Dinh Mountain, surrounded by amazing views of the exquisite river valley below and the limestone karsts dotted around which will take your breath away. 

This pagoda complex stunner boasts an array of the most massive and magnificent architecture of Vietnamese tradition, refined ever built that it takes a full day to explore all. So you will visit some of the highlights that owned the national:

  • 500 stone statues of “La Han” (Arhats)
  • 2 huge bronze bells, one weighs 27 tons and another 36 tones
  • Three bronze statues of Tam The (50 tons each) 

With sacred atmospheres and intriguing Buddhism story, which presented by your insider guide, you cannot fail to enchant.

The visit ends with a walk-up the summit mountain to see the 100 tones statue of Buddha Sakyamuni made of bronze and enjoy the panoramic view of the picturesque landscape dotted with Limestone Mountains. 

1pm: Enjoy a fabulous buffet lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant, with some special dishes such as goat meat, pork storage vessel….

2pm: Leave for the Trang An Grottoes, an out-standing natural beauty of a majestic limestone massif at 20 square kilometer rise dramatically out of rice paddy fields. Deep into the linked chains of towering mountain are pristine places of mystical valleys, numerous fresh water ponds, and jungle. Embark on a traditional sampan gently rowed down the exquisite river through numerous caves: Hang Toi (Dack) cave, 320 meters long, Sang (light) cave, 90 meters long, and Hang Nau Ruou (Cooking wine) cave, 250 meters long…  Every passages bring new surprises of the mystery hidden inside isolated valleys of tranquility that likely transformed to the other world and time. The fauna and flora is rich and a scene of a goat jumping from one cliff to the other is a common sight.

4pm: Leisure cycling on rural roads alongside the extensive canal network and through small villages with a back drop of a maze of Limestone Mountains.

5.30pm: We make our way back to Hanoi where we arrive at around 8.30pm. 

Back in Hanoi your trip unfortunately ends with us but we are sure that this tour made an indelible memory that you will cherish for the rest of your life!

Of course it is possible to travel by overnight train instead of by overnight bus if you prefer some more comfort. It is also easy for us to extend your stay. Please inform us about your preferences and we will make it happen.

Luggage during The North Trail

We have the following advice and or options:

1. Leave it in Hanoi for Sapa, Halong Bay and Bai Dinh & Trang An;

On the day of departure for Sapa you check out like normal at your hotel/ hostel. After that you bring your luggage to our partner hotel in the old quarter. We will arrange the pick-up for the bus (or train) that evening at this hotel. This is convenient because we arranged an overnight for you at this hotel after your Sapa trip. You will be dropped off at this hotel so your luggage will be there.

This hotel is opposite of the meeting point for the Cocktail Cruise the following day so you only have to cross the street. Your luggage can be left safely behind at the hotel because after Halong Bay we arranged another night at this hotel. You just have to cross the road to your hotel. The next morning before the day trip to Bai Dinh and Trang An you check out, luggage can be safely stored till after the trip as you will be dropped off there.

2. Take it to Sapa but leave it in Hanoi for Halong Bay and Bai Dinh & Trang An;

If you really want to take your luggage to Sapa we will arrange the pick-up at your current hotel/ hostel. In Sapa our tour guide can arrange, prior to the start of the trekking, your luggage to be brought to the homestay. After the trekking on day 2 you will be dropped off at the bus stop and in Hanoi you will be dropped off at the hotel we arranged for you.

This hotel is opposite of the meeting point for the Cocktail Cruise the following day so you only have to cross the street. Your luggage can be left safely behind at the hotel because after Halong Bay the trip ends at the meeting point. You just have to cross the road to your hotel. The next morning before the day trip to Bai Dinh and Trang An you check out, luggage can be safely stored till after the trip.

3. Take it to Sapa, Halong Bay and Bai Ding & Trang An;

If you really want to take your luggage to Sapa we will arrange the pick-up at your current hotel/ hostel. In Sapa our tour guide can arrange, prior to the start of the trekking, your luggage to be brought to the homestay. After the trekking on day 2 you will be dropped off at the bus stop and in Hanoi you will be dropped off at the hotel we arranged for you. This hotel is opposite of the meeting point for the Cocktail Cruise the following day so you only have to cross the street. After Halong Bay you return to the hotel we arranged and the next morning, after check-out, you can take your luggage along. After the trip you can be dropped off at any convenient place in the old quarter.
