Itinerary Details Day 2: Dong Hoi – Dark Cave – Paradise Cave – Dong Hoi
After breakfast and check-out we'll prepare for a great day of cave exploration. You can leave your luggage that you don’t want to take on this day safely behind! At around 8.30 a.m. we’ll start this beautiful and adventurous day to the 2 most impressive caves in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park.
The first exploration of this day will be Dark Cave (located in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, about 20km from Phong Nha cave and 65km from Dong Hoi (around 1h10 minutes driving). The second cave, after lunch, is Paradise cave and is about 25km from Phong Nha cave and 75km from Dong Hoi (around 1h20 minutes driving).
Dark cave is a true experience, kayaking over the river to get there, walking through the dark with only the head touch on your mining helmet, having a mud fight in the mud baths deep in the cave and then washing yourself clean with a swim in the lake inside the cave.
Activities: Muddy bath, zip lining, swimming, kayaking
Paradise cave is hidden deep within the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, 14km southwest of Son Trach, and shrouded by dense forest and looming karst peaks. It is the longest dry cave in Asia! This remarkable cave system extends for 31km, although only a kilometer or so is accessible, and is reputed to be the longest dry cave in the world. The diminutive cave mouth is accessed by a 500-step staircase and once inside the sheer scale of Paradise Cave is truly breath-taking! A Wooden staircase descends into this cathedral-like space, encircled with colossal stalagmites and glistening stalactites of white crystal that resemble glass pillars.
At around 5 – 5.30 p.m. we will be back in Dong Hoi city. Tour ends
Please bring: swimwear and towel for swimming
Dinner will be served for you at the hotel before our drop off service will take you to the train station for your 19.52 (our standard time) overnight train (soft sleeper berth) to Hanoi. Estmated arrival time in Hanoi the next morning is 5.30am.
Remember that the area in front of the train station in Hanoi is busy and the atmosphere can be a little pushy! Our advice is to step away from this area and take a reliable taxi, our recommendation is CP Taxigroup, a little bit further up road.
